CHARLOTTE, N.C. –- 10 OCTOBER 2017 –- The Corporate Angel Network (CAN) has performed its noble work for more than 35 years, providing timely corporate jet transportation for cancer patients needing to get to specialized treatment across the country. For the third straight year, SmartSky Networks’ 4 Gives More directly supports that mission with a donation to CAN at the National Business Aviation Association’s biggest event.

In conjunction with NBAA’s Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE), 4 Gives More donates $4,444 to help fund CAN flights to improve patients’ chances of survival, while also reducing their emotional stress, physical discomfort and financial burden.

“The entire business aviation community stands behind Corporate Angel Network’s most-worthy mission,” says SmartSky Networks President Ryan Stone. “This life-saving work has such a positive impact on so many people. Every year, we look forward to the opportunity to assist this amazing cause.”

The nationwide network rollout of SmartSky 4G LTE is underway. Aircraft equipped with SmartSky 4G LTE will benefit from dramatically improved inflight communications and operations, providing a better experience for patients, families and caregivers. Corporate Angel Network flights using SmartSky will be able to take advantage of Flight 5D, a Skytelligence™-powered application designed to optimize fuel burn, save flight time and account in real-time for air traffic, airspace and weather dynamics.

“We appreciate this generosity that directly benefits the lives of our patients,” says CAN Executive Director Gina Russo. “Business aviation companies, such as SmartSky, repeatedly have demonstrated a belief in community service and corporate social responsibility.”

The National Business Aviation Association has been instrumental in the growth of Corporate Angel Network and continues to support the organization in myriad ways. One important method is the annual NBAA/CAN “Fund an Angel” cocktail reception. CAN is the sole beneficiary of the event’s live and silent auctions. The event has raised a significant part of CAN’s operating budget over the years. Through 4 Gives More, SmartSky proudly continues its annual tradition of support.

Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, SmartSky Networks was formed in 2011 by senior aviation and telecommunications executives seeking to transform aviation using disruptive communications technologies. Working with leading aerospace and technology partners, SmartSky has begun the rollout of its innovative, air-to-ground network, SmartSky 4G LTE. The network takes advantage of patented spectrum reuse, advanced beamforming technologies and 60 MHz of spectrum for significantly enhanced connectivity. SmartSky 4G LTE delivers data to the aircraft with speeds comparable to next generation satellite solutions and provides unmatched speeds for data transmissions off the aircraft. This real-time, low latency, bidirectional link makes SmartSky 4G LTE a key enabler for the new and enhanced apps, services and hardware that will usher in the digitization of the aviation industry. Corporate Angel Network, based at Westchester County Airport in White Plains, NY, arranges free transportation for cancer patients to specialized treatment by using the empty seats on corporate jets already flying to the desired destinations. Since its first flight in 1981and thanks to the generosity of business aviation, CAN, a 501(c)(3) organization with Public Charity status, has provided more than 50,000 flights to adults and children whose best treatment options are often thousands of miles from home. Thirty volunteers along with a small staff coordinate the medical travel needs of cancer patients with the scheduled flight activity of more than 500 participating corporations (including half the Fortune 100) resulting in more than 225 patient flights each month. The organization has received numerous awards in recognition of its service to cancer patients including The Volunteer Action Award, the highest volunteer award from the President of the United States. .
